1998 Cal told me that the linkage was too far down. Since then I shortend it. I would like to see a good working linkage photo from the plans, help any one?

This picture is showing the parts for my Teenie nose gear and engine mount, which has the Hummel Bird shock mod. I can forward a bitmap (.bmp / Microsoft Paint) drawing of the bottom ends of the fork where the axle goes through. The welding/setup fixture for the parts is made right on the firewall bulkhead form, allowing perfect alignment of the parts to the engine. The bottom tubing for the bolts were held in place with wood dowels inside with a screw through the middle. Not shown here, but I used the same type tubes later for the top holes too. Just cut the vertical tubes short and added the bolt mount tubes to the top. Then used the engine to line everything up. See next picture....

Picture of the setup prior to tack welding the upper part of the gear/engine mount. Length of the 1.5" tube that accepts the lower gear tube, 7". On the parts that need bent, I made them longer than expected, then heated them to bend. Used a thin steel (furnace duct material) template to compare the bends so that both sides are the same. After forming complete, then I cut them to length.

Here are some dimensions that Hector in Spain was asking me for. If you need any other dims, let me know.

The 25" bay was allowed by Cal Parker to make room behind A bulkhead for the rear mount mag, even though I finally decided on a Vertex Mag on the front of the engine. The 16" height of the gear is my own design... this may or may not be a good idea as it adds a greater leverage component to the gear when you land (touchdown, sideloads, etc), but I have used a beefier gear assembly and beefed the spar attach to the wing to prevent spar twisting. Copy at your own risk.

See drawing above. Spinner is for Rotax engines. Prince 'P' tip prop. Vertex mag. Carb and carb heat box not mounted on engine at this point.

Rather than bend the tubing I decided to cut and weld at the correct angle. Bolted the tubes onto a board.

Ready for welding. The Lycoming bushes are spaced to recieve an X - Casting from Great Plains Aircraft. The aluminium angles behind the firewall were positioned with this X - casting in mind.

The thickness of the mount puts the engine about 2 inches further forward than normal. I have balanced the elevator to 100% by adding 2 lbs of lead weight at the rear end of the aircraft so, until I do the final c of g calculations, hopefully all will be within limits!

Posted by andy jankowski (128) on 2003-09-23 02:35:09 203.59.231.242

I am using the X casting to: 1)Get good vibration isolation. 2)Put engine further forward for C of G. 3)Allow me to use either a Vertex magneto in the front or an aircraft magneto at the back of the engine - yet to be decided.

Note the tubes for the bolts to go through actually pass through the upright tubes.
